Hey!! I'm Robert Rozak, President of juicedLink and author of the juicedLink Blog. The Blog is where I show people some of the new products that I'm working on, test results, and cool applications of the juicedLink products.
But, the Blog is not just a showcase for juicedLink products. I also do product reviews, and tutorials of best practices and techniques for achieving great audio and video … ON A BUDGET.
The Blog is a lot of fun for me, and I really enjoy the comments and feedback that I get from my readers regarding new product ideas, applications, and other types of content that they would like to have covered in the blog.
I try to make it fun for my readers too. I always have some nice giveaway happening (you can see in the top banner of the web page). In addition to the bigger giveaways that are always active, I also have smaller giveaways in some of my posts. Sometimes, I want to get a product into users hands to get some feedback, and I'm looking for volunteers. Other times, I may do a little survey, and do a product giveaway for the group of people who respond.
So, subscribe to the Blog, come have fun and join the community … and good luck on winning one of the prizes!
We're making room in inventory for some upcomming juicedLink products. So, we're going to stop carrying products from other manufacturers, such as microphones. So we're having a …
These microphones are all brand-new in their original packaging, and some models are marked down by as much as 50%. The mics that I sell are all the same models that I use in my gear bag, so you can be assured that you're using quality equipment at resonable prices.
Another great reason to be a part of the juicedLink Blog community!

IN THIS ISSUE: 1) BAGELMAN'S DIY MOTORIZED SLIDER GOES VERTICAL, 2) NEW PRODUCT PLANS: BRACKET TO HOLD MOTOR FOR BAGELMAN'S SLIDER
BAGELMAN'S DIY MOTORIZED SLIDER GOES VERTICAL
In our last blog post, we showed Gary Bagelman's custom job to motorize the juicedLink DIY Slider. Now, Gary has just posted a new video, where he demonstrates the strength of the motor by going vertical, pulling up a Canon 60D, Zacuto Gorilla plate, Manfrotto quick release plate, Tokina 11-16mm lens (heavy), and even a LED light (just for bragging rights). The servo handles it all with ease, super smooth and doesn't stutter once, which means there's plenty of room to go heavier if needed (battery grip, etc.). Secondary shot was done on an iPhone 4, and yeah, it's that hard to keep steady… Watch Gary's video here
NEW PRODUCT PLANS: BRACKET TO HOLD SERVO FOR BAGELMAN'S SLIDER
I'm really loving how the community of juicedLink users comes together to add value for everybody. I'm really impressed with the vertical capabilities of Gary's motorized setup. I will keep all of the information archived on the juicedLink DIY Slider page (and continue to add to it with more specific instructions, once I get all of the parts that Gary used delivered).
The only thing which could use a little more attention is the method of mounting the servo to the slider bar end. Gary has come up with a nice DIY approach, but I will contribute by designing a nice attachment piece. It will be easy and quick to produce, so stay tuned to the blog for a new accessory product announcement for the juicedLink DIY slider …
NEW CANON T3i GIVEAWAY: We're doing another Canon T3i giveaway, coming up on January 4. Make sure you tweet your friends about this great offer !! If you are receiveing this email directly from us (via Feedburner/Google), then you are already subscribed to the juicedLink Blog and eligible to win.
IN THIS ISSUE: 1) NEW RELEASE OF DT414 DSLR AUDIO SOLUTION, 2) Motorized Slider
RELEASE OF NEW JUICEDLINK DT414 DSLR AUDIO SOLUTION
You heard the pre-announcement of the DT414 on OliviaTech.com a couple of weeks ago. Now, the DT414 is released and available for purchase. It is a lower cost version of the juicedLink DT454. The only difference between the DT454 and DT414 is the DT414 does NOT have the 48V/12V Phantom Power or AGC Disable features of the DT454.
MOTORIZING THE SLIDER
Gary Bagelman posted this video (EMAIL BLOG SUBSCRIBERS WATCH THE VIDEO HERE) of a really cool DIY motorized setup he created for the juicedLink DIY114B Slider. I have not done this, so I'm passing along the information that Gary provided. Gary also indicates that the servo has no problem going vertical!
Gary uses a cable tie to mount down the servo to the slider bar end. Then, he uses a pair of screws through the mounting holes of the servo for additional support. The screw on the right of the servo is small enough to go through the center 1/4-20 of the slider bar end, and then a nut secures it on the bottom. The screw on the left side has a washer and nut that goes behind the back end of the of the slider bar end. But, the back end of the screw with the washer and nut does not have a dedicated hole on the bar end to go through. What Gary does is to use another cable tie, to tie together the back end of both of the screws, to keep the washer/nut secure behind the slider bar end (as shown in this photo).
- At 0:45, you will see what is mounted to the other side of the bar end. A 1/4-20 screw and nuts are used with a MXL wheel and MXL timing belt. The wheel and belt can be purchased at https://sdp-si.com/eStore/. The webstore is a little funky. For the wheel, you will want to search on the part number "A 6T16-026DF2508". For the belt, you will first need to "reset your part index search", then search for the part number "A 6Z16-C025" and purchase however many feet you will require.
- At 1:09, you will see the MXL belt connection to the trolley. Gary takes the screw that is included in the DIY114B, which is included as a rotational stop for mounting video heads to the trolley platform. He takes that screw from the underside of the platform, and screws it into the top side of the platform, and that is what he uses to mount and anchor the MXL belt.
- At 1:51, you can enjoy the many beautiful slides that he has created with his juicedLink DIY114B slider kit, and the DIY motorized setup he invented!!

DIY114B SLIDER KIT USE WITH CHEAP TRIPODS
It is not necessary to use a pair of very expensive tripods. We have tested some cheap tripods. The Targus TGT-BK58T is about $20 online, and works reasonably well for holding up an end of the slider, especially when you keep the tripod head close to the sticks (don't crank up the neck far).
CARBON FIBER RODS
We tested out some 8ft 5/8" dia carbon fiber rods. They are really light, and really expensive. However, they just are not as rigid under load as the steel at this length with the type of construction used. Short lengths (like 3ft) would probably be fine, but at short lenghts like that, aluminum would work as well, which is lighter and almost 1/2 the price of the steel (as opposed to almost 10x the price of the steel for the CF). So, it's not a path I recommend at this time.
THIS BABY ROLLS !!! Now, you can save even more. We're offering a $20 coupon on the DIY114B Slider Kit, the cost of the cheap tripod described above! When checking out, use Coupon Code 86518. Valid until 10/17/11.
T3i WINNER: Notification was sent to the winning email address (rogXXXX_almXXXX@hotmail.com, where "X" is a blanked out character). Further updates on the giveaway will be posted on the blog promotion page.
