The CX Family of of products were introduced to address the handheld camcorder market. They distinguish themselves from competitors by incorporating low-noise preamplifiers (as opposed to passive-type adapters). This enables much better signal-to-noise performance from your equipment by throttling back the noisy amplifiers in your camera, and replacing that noisy gain with clean gain from the juicedLink low-noise preamplifiers.
The CX211 two XLR inputs. The CX231 has two XLR inputs and adds 12/48V phantom power. The CX431 has four XLR inputs with 12/48V phantom power. They all use the same low-noise preamplifier architecture, so you can get the same great sound from any of them.
DSLR cameras with video capabilities were introduced to the market in late 2008. However, these lack audio features that users have come to expect in $500 camcorders (manual audio control, meters, headphones).
The DN101 is an accessory that can be added to any of the CX familiy of preamps to add features missing in DSLR cameras. It provides a meter, headphone amplifier, and AGC Disabler. It is not a stand alone product, and requires a CX preamp for operation. The AGC Disabler spoofs the camera into thinking that there is a high signal level present, forcing it to throttle back the noisy amplifiers in its Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry. Although this is very effective at improving your signal-to-noise performance, cameras which have Manual control of their audio will perform even better, without compromising the loss of one recording track. If you have not yet purchased a camera, then this is a feature that you should seek out if you can swing it in the budget. The DT454 is an integrated DSLR audio solution, and does not require the use of the DN101. The DT454 allows for control of four microphones simultaneously (2 XLR and 2 via the stereo minijack input). It incorporates meters, headphone amplifier, and two methods of AGC Disable. The DN101 was intended to provide a DSLR solution to our loyal installed base of CX low-noise preamplifier customers. New customers looking for a DSLR solution will be more satisfied with the integrated DT454. Make sure you read the User Manual. Although you may be familiar with the concept of standard audio mixers, you will need to understand the implications of the AGC Disable (if your camera does not have Manual control), and use of external meters will require calibration to your camera.
